So you and your child chose the backpack, pencils, erasers, water bottle, lunch bag etc…. So do you think you’re done? Nope you’re not! don’t forget to prepare your child mentally!!!

The first thing you should do  is visit your school! Especially if your child is new, why don’t you both take a walk and check out the playground, the cafeteria, meet the principal, etc…

Have a get together with your child’s last year’s classmates and have them make fun activities together. that way they will get used to seeing each other again and they would look forward to seeing them the next day.

Routine, Routine, Routine! Even i as a teacher need routine, Last week i started heading to bed earlier than usual just to let my body get used to sleeping early and waking up early again. The same goes with your child do it gradually!

Parents! Expect a lot of handouts and papers that will be given to your child so why don’t you set up a folder. If you  have more than one child write the name of each on a separate folder

You can divide it accordingly:

–  School reminders ( like trips, events, graduation day etc…)

– Activities /tests

– Newsletters

Enjoy the rest of your summer and have fun preparing for school.

Parents! School is almost here and all summer your kids were waking up late and sleeping late and there is just no order!

All this has to stop starting today! You have to get your kids back on that morning routine before school starts.

– Starting today have your kids sleep early and wake them up a bit earlier then they usually wake up during holidays.

Gradually do that so your kids won’t  feel really cranky in the morning.

– Reminders: Some kids remember what to do in the morning in a timely fashion but others need reminders like, ” Son don’t forget to brush your teeth.”

– Avoid yelling and harsh treatment. No parent likes sending their child out the door after a screaming match.

– Tack on an additional task. Once the morning schedule becomes routine, you can add an element: throwing dirty clothes in the hamper, making beds, putting together lunches.

Remember your goal: You want your children up and out the door on time, and to move securely through the school day so each can reach her academic potential. Ask yourself how you wish the school year to go, then ask yourself how you can help it happen.

Brain waves, alpha music and productive calmness!!

This type of music, the alpha music, called Silence of Peace by John Levine would work great if you put as a background music in your classroom. It will calm your students down and helps them concentrate on the activity that they are doing.  Students enjoy using this music as a study aid, insisting that “Silence of Peace” quiets the mind and makes it easier to focus, absorb and retain information. So i took the CD and put it in my classroom while my students were working on an activity. I noticed a big change in the atmosphere. It was much calmer and the kids were able to focus more. This is the second time I post about this music because it works like magic and every teacher who is suffering from a hyperactive classroom would love this.

This is what the alpha music did to the students! They were working and concentraing on their work!

  What does Alpha music do:

•Reduces stress and anxiety
•Settles down hyperactive behaviour
•Feelings of panic or being overwhelmed subside
•Background for meditation, physical therapies or gentle exercise

“Silence of Peace” by John levine is the first in the “Silence” series of CDs, all of which demonstrate this philosophy. Children are often especially responsive to “Silence of Peace”. Children as young as 3 often go into a quiet, even entranced state when they listen to it and children of all ages find this music relaxes them and gives them easy access to their imagination.

here the students were sitting quietly in the story corner and i was very surprised because i didn't tell them to do so. It was the alpha music!

“My wish is for everyone to be more calm and healthy, with the help of the wonderful and natural remedy of alpha waves. It is my special wish that my music helps you too!” …..J.B. Levine

Over 250,000 people world-wide use John Levine’s alphamusic to help cope with the symptoms of anxiety.

A funny short film about teachers and what they go through! Rarely you see this happen to teachers these days. That’s why we go to workshops now 🙂

During our morning routine, it’s a must that we do our stretching exercises. I explain to them that it helps them a lot to start a fresh morning with a relaxed mode. Then after we finish our exercises I tell them to smile 🙂 and be grateful for everything.

HERE WE ARE TAKING DEEP BREATHES

Here are some stretching exercises that i did with my students this morning….Have a look:

STRETCHING OUR ARMS

SHAKING OUR HANDS, THEN WE SHAKE OUR LEGS AFTERWARDS AND STRETCH OUR LEGS

WE DO SOME EXERCISES FOR THE HIPS, SIDEWAYS, AND IN CIRCLES

THEN WE END IT BY BREATHING AGAIN FOR 3 TIMES…

Print the charts and then place them in a sheet protector for use.

Write on, wipe off and hang anywhere. Remember to set your printer margins to “0” when printing.
