Miss Farah

Last week I decorated my classroom but I am definitely not done yet! There’s still a lot missing I am just showing you the progress. I will be discussing the main points in decorating a classroom in my upcoming posts… In the meanwhile I have a few things I would like to share with you now…

Colors are very important in a class make sure it’s colorful and clear!

The desks were separate but frankly I like to have my students sit in groups at least in the beginning of the year. I don’t want them to be separated. Don’t forget to put name tags on the desks. It’s a great feeling to know that you own something 🙂

Labeling!

Label everything in your class from door to light switch to cubbies, bulletin board, chair, desk etc….

Kids need to see words everywhere they go so they can be better spellers and readers.

If you look at the top of the whiteboard you would see a red line. I put the red color because as I said in my previous posts about feng shui the color red attracts the students attention. The whiteboard is the most place you would want them to look.

This bulletin board is mainly for circle time in the morning where we sit on the carpet in a big circle. There we will be doing our breathing exercises, calendar, weather, seasons,  birthdays, class rules, classroom helpers etc… We can also discuss the class schedule and what to expect that day!

Here’s to the kids who are different,

The kids who don’t always get A’s,

The kids who have ears twice the size of their peers,

And noses that go on for days…

Here’s to the kids who are different,

The kids they call crazy or dumb,

The kids who don’t fit, with the guts and the grit,

Who dance to a different drum…

Here’s to the kids who are different,

The kids with the mischievous streak,

For when they have grown, as history’s shown,

It’s their difference that makes them unique.

So today was the day I entered my class, my empty class in other words… I stared at it and started thinking of the right colors and the right arrangements and the seating ohh dear there’s just so much to do and soooo little time.

One year ago I posted about How to Feng Shui your Classroom and I was applying the same to my new classroom.

So first I had to think about the space because in feng shui it is very important to have spacious room so that the kids can move around easily.

No cluttering

The color red attracts the pupil’s attention, so i was thinking to put the red color over the whiteboard.

Bamboo plant will be placed on my desk after the decoration is over

Lighting is very important so shutters have to be always open to promote positive chi into the classroom.

I also decided to make it colorful so it can be more inviting to my students.

I have a balcony in my classroom just thought of showing it to you 🙂

Wish me luck on making my class inviting  🙂

So you and your child chose the backpack, pencils, erasers, water bottle, lunch bag etc…. So do you think you’re done? Nope you’re not! don’t forget to prepare your child mentally!!!

The first thing you should do  is visit your school! Especially if your child is new, why don’t you both take a walk and check out the playground, the cafeteria, meet the principal, etc…

Have a get together with your child’s last year’s classmates and have them make fun activities together. that way they will get used to seeing each other again and they would look forward to seeing them the next day.

Routine, Routine, Routine! Even i as a teacher need routine, Last week i started heading to bed earlier than usual just to let my body get used to sleeping early and waking up early again. The same goes with your child do it gradually!

Parents! Expect a lot of handouts and papers that will be given to your child so why don’t you set up a folder. If you  have more than one child write the name of each on a separate folder

You can divide it accordingly:

–  School reminders ( like trips, events, graduation day etc…)

– Activities /tests

– Newsletters

Enjoy the rest of your summer and have fun preparing for school.

Saw this post at Parent Dish and it grabbed my attention

In 1994, my husband and I had a daughter and named her Miley Elizabeth. Even though she was named way before people even heard of Miley Cyrus, people keep insisting that she was named after her and call her mean names because they do not like the Cyrus kid. My daughter hates her name now and wants to change it. I suggested we call her by her middle name but in our area there are a lot of girls named Elizabeth and pretty much any nickname for Elizabeth has been taken. She wants to change her name to Zarya because no one has that name and it means princess. Should we let her? I personally do not like the name Zarya and the name Miley Elizabeth means so much to my husband and me.

– Miley’s Mom

The name lady replies:

Ah, your poor daughter! There she was, all set with a creative, unusual name that put a smile on people’s faces, when a celebrity came along and stole it right out from under her.Whether you love Miley Cyrus or loathe her, you have to admit that she has taken control of the name Miley. For a baby born today, that shouldn’t be a big problem. The girl will grow up in a world full of Mileys, Kileys and Brileys. But for a young lady the same age as Ms. Cyrus, it’s a blow to her personal identity at an age when forging your own identity is job number one.

I appreciate that you’re taking your daughter’s name trouble seriously. This isn’t one to laugh off. But I don’t recommend legal name changes for minors on grounds of style. Just as you’d hold off on purchasing high-end shoes or sporting equipment for kids whose bodies are still growing, you should hold off on choosing new names for kids whose selves are still growing.

For the time being, let your daughter choose any nickname or alter ego she likes. The legal change, though, can wait until she’s a legal adult. By that time she’ll have had the chance to try on more identities, and will have a better sense of whether Zarya, or princess, really fits — or whether Miley might become “hers” again after all.

Did you ever regret your name? Share your experiences here.

Frankly, I’m not a morning person! But for the first time in my life I was actually looking forward to the drive on my way to work, I mean who wouldn’t! The scenery that was surrounding me was breathtaking….simply amazing! Imagine my school is up there between those houses on the mountain…. It’s a 40 minute drive from my home but definitely worth it…

Everyone was so friendly and i got to see my classroom! It was so cute i’ll be taking pictures next week for sure when I start working on it.

Mornings are very important so we can have a fresh start of the day!

To have a great and relaxing  morning this is what you should do:

– Sleep early

– wake up and stretch a bit

– Have breakfast and coffee

– Put soft music in your car on your way to work. Sometimes I like to listen to the morning shows on the radio so I can be updated about the news, weather, events, and the gossips 🙂

And then your set for the day! Remember always stay positive !

It’s the most unhappy people who most fear change.  ~Mignon McLaughlin, The Second Neurotic’s Notebook, 1966

The countdown ends!!

Tomorrow I start my first day at a new school! I am so excited to have a fresh start, to meet new people, new parents, new students, and new colleagues!

Sometimes Change is good!

Actually, change is always good because that is the nature of our reality.

I did not only change my job but i am also taking care of my health by going to the gym daily and eating healthy food! Having a healthy lifestyle is definitely the best change you can do!

This post reminds of the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert where she was seeking self discovery and a change in her life. By the way i’m still waiting for the movie to come out so I can watch it!!

Anyway so what i’m saying is if you are tired of routine, have been feeling down or something in your life is just not right then change is the answer. Try something new and don’t be afraid!

Wish me luck on my new job looking forward to sharing posts about my new school starting……Tomorrow 😀

Good night!
