This is the teachers’ favvvvorite topic! Parents this is becoming a big issue nowadays and it’s like the new trend!

Everyday during dismissal half of the parents don’t show up, but who does instead? Either the nanny or the driver…If i were a parent I would do anything just to see my child‘s face at the end of the day and hug him and get into the car together and get ready to go home. Believe me it would mean the world to them!

This is one issue,,,however another issue is the homework. I had a few kids whose homework wasn’t done by them and when I asked them they would tell me my nanny did it or she is helping me with my school work. Say what????

Please note that the nannies or helpers in our community are not very well educated and their English isn’t that good. Many of my kids used to speak incorrect grammar because they used to copy their nanny.

Now that is shocking, first teachers are not sending homework for your nanny to complete it and second parents or siblings are the ones who are supposed to support.

Where is the family bonding? Where is the parent’s involvement? This just saddens me and please note that this will affect the child mentally.

So you and your child chose the backpack, pencils, erasers, water bottle, lunch bag etc…. So do you think you’re done? Nope you’re not! don’t forget to prepare your child mentally!!!

The first thing you should do  is visit your school! Especially if your child is new, why don’t you both take a walk and check out the playground, the cafeteria, meet the principal, etc…

Have a get together with your child’s last year’s classmates and have them make fun activities together. that way they will get used to seeing each other again and they would look forward to seeing them the next day.

Routine, Routine, Routine! Even i as a teacher need routine, Last week i started heading to bed earlier than usual just to let my body get used to sleeping early and waking up early again. The same goes with your child do it gradually!

Parents! Expect a lot of handouts and papers that will be given to your child so why don’t you set up a folder. If you  have more than one child write the name of each on a separate folder

You can divide it accordingly:

–  School reminders ( like trips, events, graduation day etc…)

– Activities /tests

– Newsletters

Enjoy the rest of your summer and have fun preparing for school.

Saw this post at Parent Dish and it grabbed my attention

In 1994, my husband and I had a daughter and named her Miley Elizabeth. Even though she was named way before people even heard of Miley Cyrus, people keep insisting that she was named after her and call her mean names because they do not like the Cyrus kid. My daughter hates her name now and wants to change it. I suggested we call her by her middle name but in our area there are a lot of girls named Elizabeth and pretty much any nickname for Elizabeth has been taken. She wants to change her name to Zarya because no one has that name and it means princess. Should we let her? I personally do not like the name Zarya and the name Miley Elizabeth means so much to my husband and me.

– Miley’s Mom

The name lady replies:

Ah, your poor daughter! There she was, all set with a creative, unusual name that put a smile on people’s faces, when a celebrity came along and stole it right out from under her.Whether you love Miley Cyrus or loathe her, you have to admit that she has taken control of the name Miley. For a baby born today, that shouldn’t be a big problem. The girl will grow up in a world full of Mileys, Kileys and Brileys. But for a young lady the same age as Ms. Cyrus, it’s a blow to her personal identity at an age when forging your own identity is job number one.

I appreciate that you’re taking your daughter’s name trouble seriously. This isn’t one to laugh off. But I don’t recommend legal name changes for minors on grounds of style. Just as you’d hold off on purchasing high-end shoes or sporting equipment for kids whose bodies are still growing, you should hold off on choosing new names for kids whose selves are still growing.

For the time being, let your daughter choose any nickname or alter ego she likes. The legal change, though, can wait until she’s a legal adult. By that time she’ll have had the chance to try on more identities, and will have a better sense of whether Zarya, or princess, really fits — or whether Miley might become “hers” again after all.

I saw this link on Dr.Mehmet Oz’s fan page, and got devastated when I read this post. Some British retailer is selling large sized  clothing for kids who are Obese! In my opinion I am totally against it because the fact that these kids reached the stage of obesity is a mistake. Now when kids discover that there is clothing that matches their size it will be more convenient to them and this issue will encourage them to not lose that excess weight. I put up a poll I chose a few answers from what Dr. Mehmet Oz’s fans shared you can choose one or just add your own answer. I would love to hear your thoughts.

The other day I was chatting with my cousins on the balcony while I heard some kids yelling. They were in the building facing us.  3 kids were standing there unsupervised and one of them was actually trying to climb up and half of her body was outside!! My cousins and I were shocked and immediately raised our voices and told her to go down. So where are their parents? ….Parents this post is for you, many dangerous things are happening these days because of kids being unsupervised, make sure you know where your kids are and what they are doing at all times!!

A California couple faces child endangerment charges after police say they tried to sell their 6-month-old baby for $25 outside a Walmart store.

Salinas police spokesman, Officer Lalo Villegas, said Thursday that Patrick Fousek, 38, and Samantha Tomasini, 20, were arrested early Wednesday, hours after Fousek allegedly approached two women outside Walmart and asked if they’d like to purchase his child.

The women initially thought Fousek was joking, but when he became persistent, they became suspicious and reported it to police, Villegas said.

“They did an outstanding job and gave our officers good information. I don’t know if they’re mothers but they definitely had that instinct to help,” Villegas said.

Fousek and Tomasini were arrested at 1 a.m. Wednesday at their home. Officers said the couple appeared high on methamphetamine and the house was in disarray. A police report also claimed that Tomasini told Child Protective Services, who took the baby, that she had breast-fed the infant while under the influence, Villegas said.

The couple was also booked on charges of being under the influence of narcotics, and Fousek was also served with an extra charge of violating probation. Villegas did not have details of Fousek’s previous brush with the law.

The couple was expected to be in court for an arraignment Friday, at which time they would be assigned public defenders.

If you are wondering where to go this summer, Dubai is the place to go. There’s a very entertaining place for kids aged 4- 15 where it offers education and entertainment. It is Kidzania!

It is a kid-sized replica of a real city, with streets, buildings, retail and vehicles moving around the city – all scaled down to children’s size. It involves role playing and the children are encouraged to take on a variety of parts, from doctor and firefighter to banker and policeman. Kids wear the uniform and perform the role they are playing and thus learn the complexity of the adult world.

Kids choose what they would like to be when they grow up and they have to practice the occupation and will even receive a certificate!

Here are the kids who chose to be firefighters!

Kids who chose to be police officers!

Kids role playing as doctors!

Kidzania is one of the places that I would definitely take my children to! Won’t you?
